Munnar is situauted 1,600 m above sea level, and was once the summer resort of the erstwhile British Government in South India. The Bekal Fort is the largest fort in Kerala, wonderfully constructed on a steepy hill facing the Bekal beach. It is located around 16 km to the south of northernmost district in Kerala, Kasaragod. It has been impeccably maintained throughout the years, and is probably the best preserved monument in Kerala. As with many of Tipu Sultan’s Forts, the Bekal Fort also offers a network of underground passageways The Anjaneya Temple and an ancient mosque build by Tipu are also important attractions here.
